West Ashley High School’s Marching Band recently participated in several regional competitions and came back with plenty to celebrate. At the end of September they traveled to Colleton County High School for The Walterboro Band Classic and competed against two other high schools in their division. West Ashley High’s marching band, made up of 107 members, performed their show titled “Tribal Affect”, a performance that includes a tribal theme throughout at the competition. They ended up taking home first place overall. They also won first place for their Color Guard and fist place for their Horn Line.
Due to the inclement weather, the WAHS marching band was unable to perform at the Lowcountry Invitational and the Socastee Band Blast as both competitions were canceled. They did, however, participate in The Aynor Blue Jacket Fanfare on Oct. 17. With a total of 16 teams competing, not only did they take first place in Color Guard, Percussion, and Horn Line, they were also first place overall and crowned Grand Champions.
This past weekend, West Ashley High School hosted the Lower State Band Competition. Opening ceremonies for the event began at with 2A bands performing and 4A bands competing later that afternoon. WAHS competed against 4A bands from Charleston County all the way to Lexington County, totaling 16 bands in all. WAHS competed at 9pm and ended up coming in 9th place overall. The 4A & 2A State Championships took place after press time at Spring Valley High in Columbia.
