Twenty-two West Ashley High School DECA students recently traveled to North Charleston for the 72nd Annual South Carolina DECA Career Development Conference. DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) is an international association of high school and college students and teachers of marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service.
The state conference consisted of the students competing in role-playing events in different categories like Finance, Marketing, or Hospitality and Management. Out of the 22 West Ashley High students that competed at the State Conference, 18 placed in the top 10 for their categories. Five out of those 18 placed in the top five of their categories.
Jerome Smalls placed first place for the third year in a row, Ashante Edwards and Anthony Brown placed third, and Zariah Clay and Katlynn Long placed fourth.
The WAHS DECA Team will travel to Orlando, Fla. April 24-28 to compete in the International Career Development Conference.
