As darkness blankets the holy city of Charleston, Brack Pelton steps out of a rundown bar after a long night. Before he gets to his truck, he finds himself in the middle of a domestic dispute between a man and a woman on the sidewalk. When a little girl joins the couple and gets hit by the man, Pelton intervenes and takes him down. But the abuser isn’t finished. He pulls a gun and shoots the woman. Brack saves the little girl, but his world has just been rocked. Again.
This is the basis of local author David Burnsworth’s newest novel Burning Heat. It is the second in a series of novels which follow Afghanistan War veteran and bar owner Brack Pelton. The first was entitled Southern Heat and received critical acclaim upon it’s release in 2014.
Burnsworth became fascinated with the Deep South at a young age. After a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and 15 years in the corporate world, the aspiring author made the decision to write a novel. Having lived on Sullivan’s Island for the better part of the last decade, setting the novels in Charleston was a foregone conclusion.
On Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. David Burnsworth will be signing copies of Burning Heat at the Barnes & Noble in West Ashley, located at 1812 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. For more information, call 556-6561 or visit www.davidburnsworthbooks.com.
