Na Fidleiri, Charleston’s only youth Irish fiddle group, is pleased to announce that its monthly “Traditional Irish Music Sessions” will take place in West Ashley this Saturday, Nov. 15, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Blue Rose Café, located 652 St. Andrew’s Blvd.
Any players of traditional Irish instruments that would like to join them in the session (think jam session) is welcome to come. It is the perfect opportunity for players that have the skill but haven’t worked up the nerve to play with the “big dogs” at the more established traditional music sessions in town, or for those that just have a lot of songs they want to share and enjoy playing in sessions.
Founded and directed by Mary Taylor, Na Fidleiri has been called the nation’s finest, most unique Celtic fiddling ensemble for young fiddlers. Comprising of 25 auditioned fiddlers between the ages of 10 and 18, plus pennywhistle, bodhran and guitar, Na Fidléirí performs repertoire from the Celtic tradition, specially arranged for them by their director. Members are taught the technique and style of Celtic fiddling, while simultaneously being grounded in a classical technical foundation.
The Na Fidleiri players are honing their “session skills” at Blue Rose Café for future participation in sessions in Ireland. For more information, call Mary Taylor at 819-6961.
