Metronome Charleston, an independent online resource providing coverage of the Lowcountry’s music scene, officially launched on Sept. 10, 2012. The goal in mind: to cover, critique, and celebrate the Charleston-area’s music scene with features, interviews, event listings, music news, reviews, and galleries.
Metronome Charleston will celebrate its first year with a six-band bash on Friday, September 20 at one of Charleston’s top independent music venues, the Tin Roof. “We want this anniversary party to be a celebration of the best the Lowcountry music scene has to offer,” says Metronome founder/editor Ballard Lesemann.
The Metronome Charleston Anniversary Show will feature live music from Elim Bolt, the Boring Portals, the Unawares, the Fairy God Muthas, Jordan Igoe, Lindsay Holler, and special guests. Things will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a free Rock ‘n’ Roll Team Trivia game (hosted by Lesemann) on the Tin Roof’s deck. Prizes will include passes to shows at the North Charleston Coliseum, the Performing Arts Center, Theatre 99, and Tin Roof bar cash.
Singer/songwriter Jordan Igoe (of Double Trash) will kick things off on the main stage at 8:30 p.m. Songwriter, vocalist, bandleader, and event organizer Lindsay Holler (of Matadero, the Western Polaroids, and Oh Ginger) will hit the stage at 9:15 p.m.
“It will be an honor to bring my bandmate Doug ‘Street D’ Walters (of Torture Tow) to the stage for a quick Fairy God Muthas set,” says Lesemann. “Walters is a veteran singer, guitarist, and songwriter with top chops and gusty soul. We’ve been performing and recording as the Fairy God Muthas for three years. We’ll gladly share gear at the show with the three co-headlining acts.”
Columbia-based power trio the Unawares, Charleston-based indie-rock combo Elim Bolt (of local label Hearts & Plugs, and garage/rock combo Boring Portals (members of Southern Femisphere, Mechanical River, Sans Jose and numerous other local projects) will close the night on the main stage.
“Since launching last September, assistant editor/photographer Jessica Mickey and I have been extremely fortunate to work with some talented freelance writers and photographers — genuine music fans who’ve been able to document, review, and converse with some key local and visiting acts along the way,” says Lesemann. “The diligent folks who run the music clubs and concert halls around town have been extremely helpful, accommodating, and supportive, as well. Metronome Charleston is still a rookie resource, but it’s rolling ahead with accelerated confidence and much appreciated support.”
Admission for the “Metronome Charleston Anniversary Show” on Fri. Sept. 20 at the Tin Roof will be $7 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the bands and website expenses. 1117 Magnolia Road. For more information, visit www.metronomecharleston.com.
