Last week John Tecklenburg was sworn in as the new mayor of the City of Charleston. It’s the Holy City’s first new mayor in 40 years. Many are excited to hear Tecklenberg’s plan for continuing to keep Charleston not only as a world class city to visit, but also a great one to live.
“We’re very honored and excited to have Mayor Tecklenburg as our first speaker of the year,” said WAJIBA president Kirk Matenaer. “He’s a West Ashley guy, so a lot of people here are anxious to hear what his plans are for this side of town and his vision for Charleston as a whole.”
In West Ashley and James Island, many want to hear the new mayor’s vision for growth and revitalization for their part of town. On Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Town & Country Inn, Tecklenburg will speak to the West Ashley James Island Business Association (WAJIBA) about his plans for the region.
During his campaign, Tecklenburg promised to have a “A real plan for West Ashley,” one that “focused on West Ashley’s livability and quality of life.” As a West Ashley resident himself, many on this side of the river are hoping Tecklenburg will shift some of City Hall’s attention from the peninsula to the areas West of the Ashley River, where tremendous growth is expected in the coming years.
For this meeting, WAJIBA will not meet at their usual location at the Holiday Inn Riverview, but instead will meet at The Town & Country Inn on Savannah Hwy. Admission is $10 for WAJIBA members and guests and $20 for non-members and includes a buffet lunch.
Mayor John Tecklenburg will speak  to WAJIBA on Wednesday, January 27, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Town & Country Inn, located at 2008 Savannah Hwy. For more information, email Kirk Matenaer at wajibiz@gmail.com.
