Students and faculty at CE Williams Middle School for Creative and Scientific Arts have plenty to be proud of this week. The West Ashley school has started 2016 with a bang, with several of their students being honored for their academic achievements.
Twenty-two members of the Junior Beta Club from CE Williams traveled to Myrtle Beach Jan. 14 and 15 to attend the South Carolina Junior Beta Club Convention.
Students from elementary and middle schools from all over the state competed in activities ranging from academic contests to quiz bowls to talent competitions. Participants were given the opportunity to interact and showcase their academic and leadership abilities.
Additionally, 18 students from C.E. Williams have been identified as 2015-2016 South Carolina Junior Scholars.
Junior Scholars are selected based on receiving a (PSAT/NMSQT) score of 550 or above in the Evidence Based Reading & Writing Section and 530 or above in the Math Section. The S.C. Junior Scholars Program, which began in 1987, reflects a growing statewide effort to improve education in South Carolina and responds to the critical needs of students possessing unique abilities.
The purpose of the program is to identify students with exceptionally high scholastic achievement and intellectual ability and to provide opportunities for these students, which facilitate their intellectual growth, broaden their individual interests and promote their scholastic achievement.
