Lounge singer Mike Milo brings the sound and spirit of Ol’ Blue Eyes to West Ashley with a special evening of food and music

There are few performers as iconic as Frank Sinatra. The late-great crooner has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all-time. Now, more than a quarter of a century after his passing, Ol’ Blue Eyes still remains an American original whose songs are known and cherished by fans of all ages.
One of those fans is local restauranteur Doug Allison. If you go into Southside 17 you can see photos of Sinatra and the Rat Pack on the wall of the popular West Ashley eatery. Allison says he has even more on the walls of his home, including Sinatra’s famous mug shot.
“I’ve always loved the Rat Pack,” says Allison. “It’s kind of my relaxation,” Therefore, it’s no surprise that when he got the idea to host a “Dinner and a Show” evening at one of his other West Ashley restaurants, Ireland’s Own, the first thing that came to mind was to do a Sinatra night.
Several years ago, he hosted a semi-regular Rat Pack night at Southside 17. One of the musicians who would play regularly was Tim DeMars. So, when Allison started planning the Ireland’s Own event, he called up DeMars and asked if he could put something together. Allison says that DeMars told him about a Texas-based singer named Mike Milo, who does a fantastic rendition of Sinatra standards. Allison agreed to fly Milo in to perform along with the Tim DeMars Trio on Saturday, Feb. 23.
For the dinner part of the “Dinner and a Show,” there will be a special menu featuring Eggplant Lasagna, an Italian classic, as well as Ireland’s Own’s famous Prime Rib, served with red potatoes, asparagus, and a side or Caesar salad. Allison says that if this one goes well, he plans to do more “Dinner and a Show” events in the future. He already has an idea for an Elvis tribute.
The Frank Sinatra Tribute Dinner & Show will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Ireland’s Own, located at 3025 Ashley Town Center Dr. Seating is limited. Tickets are $60 in advance and $70 at the door and includes dinner. To purchase tickets in advance call (843) 872-9488.
