West Of, West Ashley’s weekly community newspaper, is out to honor a handful of people who’ve made the biggest, most positive effect in our part of town this past year.
But to think that we here at West Of know about all the good being done out there in West Ashley is nuts. We need help … your help.
We’ve got some ideas of people and public officials and business leaders who have helped make West Ashley the best part of Charleston to live in. We want to know who you think should be nominated!
• Who made your kids’ schools that much better?
• Who helped your church be a better a place to worship?
• Who is providing a service or product that is unmatched?
• What doctor took awesome care of your family members, or you?
Past winners include community organizers, neighborhood association presidents, fundraisers, firemen, politicians, a fire chief, teachers, principals, local comedians, restaurateurs, and hospital volunteers.
Since we will be publishing our annual “Westie Awards” edition on March 1,. we need to hear from you no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
If you know of an outstanding individual who should be nominated for a Westie Award, please e-mail publisher@westof.net with your nominee’s name and a 100-300-word paragraph detailing why you believe he or she is worthy of receiving a Westie.
Winners will receive mention in the paper, as well as receive a coveted “Golden Cow” trophy, cast in honor of the Coburg Cow. And most importantly, they’ll know their community has recognized their efforts.
