A unique photography exhibit opens this week when Jericho Arts, the fine arts arm of Jericho Advisors, presents an exhibition of contemporary photography for its December show. Entitled Our Landscapes, the exhibit features photography from Chloe Hope Gilstrap, Thomas McCorkle, Jonathan Stout, Jessica Stocker, and Kate Wichlinski.
“When we (Jericho Advisors CEO Josh Silverman and I) started thinking about a landscape show, many of the artists we found we were drawn to were photographers,” says Megan Schaeffer, gallery manager at Jericho Advisors, located in the Avondale section of West Ashley. Our Landscapes will open with a reception this Sunday, Dec. 7 from 4-7 p.m.
Our Landscapes features numerous works from the featured photographers in both black & white and color. While the photos as a whole capture space within our landscape, as a collective they have very different styles and subjects in their representation of light, atmosphere, tone, and texture. It’s this ability to create unique environments and offer a distinct approach to landscape that sets these photographers apart as artists.
“Traditional landscape photography is very popular in beautiful Charleston, but these photographers use their medium to depict surroundings that are far from traditional. From detailed illuminated night photography to completely abstracted photos that merely resemble landscapes,” says Schaeffer. “We have the pleasure of exhibiting five artists that really take landscape photography to the next level.”
Located at 815 Savannah Hwy., suite 101, the gallery at Jericho Advisors is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and by appointment. In addition, images can be seen and purchased on the web, and at the Avondale Winterfest on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 12-6 p.m. For more information, call 212-8482 or visit www.artsjericho.com.
