With Rosh Hashanah just taking place, it’s a new year for Jews all over the world. For Jews here in Charleston, it’s already off to an exciting start. Addlestone Hebrew Academy, the area’s only Jewish day school, is about to move into their brand new, state-of-the-art building. It will have full integration of the most current technology and learning programs. On Wednesday, Sept. 30, Addlestone held the official ribbon cutting for the new school. Anita Zucker, along with the entire 8th grade class had the honor of cutting the ribbon.
“Addlestone Hebrew Academy is central to the growth and stability of the entire Charleston Jewish community,” says principal Abby Levine “Our new building will only enhance the opportunities we have to develop strong Jewish thinkers, individuals, and leaders.”
Founded in 1956, Addlestone Hebrew Academy has become a school for the entire Charleston Jewish community, with the students and board representing all movements; Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, and unaffiliated. Addlestone provides a multi-disciplinary education, integrating a dual curriculum of general and Judaic studies throughout the day.
Since 1987, the school’s location has been in a building attached to the Jewish Community Center at 1639 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd. in West Ashley. With more families being drawn to the Charleston area in recent years, it was time for Addlestone to have a new home.
After years of planning and perfecting, a stunning two-story creation has emerged on the land adjacent to the current building. There’s been a lot of energy and excitement ever since the ground breaking a year ago, and now, the students, teachers, board and parents, are eagerly awaiting move in day.
The Grand Opening for the entire public will be held on Nov. 8. Addlestone Hebrew Academy is located at 1675 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd. For more information, call 571-1105 or visit www.addlestone.org.
