Local comedian Brian T. Shirley performs at the Elks Lodge on July 22
from Staff Reports
For more than a quarter of a century, entertainer Brian T Shirley has toured the USA, Canada, the Bahamas and Japan. In that time, he has performed hundreds of times as a stand-up comedian, he’s been part of an improv troupe, hosted trivia, co-hosted radio shows, created and hosted two (non-scripted) and one scripted web series. He has appeared in short films, feature films, a music video for the local Grammy-winning band Ranky Tanky, starred in commercials, and been on Real Housewives of Atlanta. Shirley continues to act, write, produce, and take the stage whenever he can. A West Ashley native, Shirley performs in his old stomping grounds on Saturday, July 22 at the Elks Lodge, located at 1113 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. The show is free but reservations are required. Call the lodge at (843) 556-0048 for more information.
A consummate professional who loves being onstage and on film sets, Shirley understands the creative process and can temper his stand-up to fit any crowd, so his shows range from PG, PG-13 to R-rated (but never overly-vulgar). He talks growing up poor, coming from a divorced family, romantic relationships, and the military (he is a U.S. Air Force veteran). He often recounts stories from his third book A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Club, and portrays various characters throughout his show, including his popular “Fine Southern Gentleman” and others.
