On Wednesday, Sept. 2, The Kickin’ Chicken presented a check totaling $11,457 to Don Hall, the Executive Director of Teacher’s Supply Closet, a West Ashley-based non-profit organization that provides teachers with supplies needed for their classroom that they would otherwise have to purchase out of pocket. The mission is to help children and teachers in the tri-county area meet their educational and creative needs with the help of local businesses and individuals.
The donation was a result of the “Clemson vs Carolina Chicken Head” fundraiser that took place during the month of August. The friendly competition encouraged fans to show support for their team by donating $1 to Teacher’s Supply Closet in return for either a garnet or an orange “chicken head” that would hang on the wall in The Kickin’ Chicken. Once the donations were tallied, South Carolina fans had edged out Clemson fans by about $750 in donations.
The Kickin’ Chicken restaurants were also in competition with each other to see which of the five locations could raise the most money. The winning store would have their total matched by the owners of The Kickin’ Chicken. Overall, the downtown location came out on top, raising nearly $3,500.
“We feel a strong responsibility to be good community partners. Besides, what’s more fun than a little competition between rivals leading into football season,” says The Kickin’ Chicken partner, Chip Roberts. This is the third year The Kickin’ Chicken has orchestrated the month long fundraiser for Teacher’s Supply Closet, and this year raised the largest donation, besting last year by nearly 15%.
