When Hurricane Matthew set the East Coast of the United State in his sites, decisions had to be made here in the Lowcountry. Schools were cancelled, The Governor called for a mandatory evacuation, events would have to be rescheduled. One of the unfortunate casualties of Matthew’s brush with Charleston, was the cancellation of the annual Avondale 5K run/walk. Hosted by Triangle Char & Bar, every year the event raises thousands of dollars for The Charles Webb Center, a developmental day care located right here in West Ashley, serving children with special needs from age 6 weeks to 10 years old.
Unlike concerts, football games, and other activities that could easily be rescheduled, a run that blocks off city streets is slightly harder to accomplish. And due to permitting issues another date could not be secured. But the folks over at Triangle Char + Bar are not letting a little bad weather ruin a good time and a good cause. They’ve scheduled a Hurricane After Party from 9-11 a.m. this Saturday, Nov. 5 in lieu of a new race date. Triangle invites you to come party with them and bring the whole family for a day of food, fun, music, a jump castle, and more
As the financial needs of the Charles Webb Center are always first and foremost with this event, Triangle is continuing to accept donations on behalf of the West Ashley charity. All race registrants will be able to pick up their T-shirt at the Hurricane After Party. If you are unable to attend, you may pick up your shirt at the Disabilities Board office located downtown at 995 Morrison Dr., Suite 100 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday – Friday, Nov. 7-30. On December 1st, they will be donated.
The Hurricane After Party benefitting the Charles Webb Center will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, 9-11 a.m. at Triangle Char + Bar, located at 828 Savannah Hwy. For more information, call 377-1300or visit www.avondale5k.com.
