An immersive celebration of art, history and nature at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens
from Staff Reports
This month, you can step into a world where art and nature intertwine, where history whispers through the petals, and where indigo—a color as deep as the Lowcountry’s past—blooms once more. Hosted by Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, Indigo in Bloom is a one-of-a-kind floral art installation that pays tribute to indigo’s deep roots in Charleston’s history. The exhibit officially opens on Saturday, April 5, and runs until Sunday, May 4.
For centuries, indigo was more than just a dye—it was a symbol of creativity, resilience, and transformation. Indigo in Bloom is a breathtaking fusion of horticulture, history, and artistry set against the timeless beauty of one of Charleston’s most storied landscapes.
Magnolia invites visitors to experience indigo’s legacy reimagined through stunning art installations by renowned artists Hitomi Gilliam and Arianne King Comer, whose work pays homage to the rich botanical and cultural heritage of the Lowcountry.
An opening reception will be held at the Magnolia House on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., during which you can meet Gilliam and Comer and hear them discuss their work. This event is included with your General Admission ticket and there will be light bites and refreshments. Indigo In Bloom will remain up until Sunday, May 4.
