Listening to Jodi Riley and her longtime boyfriend Steven Cardinal talking about the trials and tribulations of dating in the modern world is a lot like enjoying a conversation with some good friends at the bar. There are plenty of anecdotes, stories of life lessons learned and occasionally another person joining the table and throwing in their two cents.
It’s this genial, easygoing attitude that not only helps Riley and Cardinal’s own relationship, but their relationship with their listeners, as well. Three years ago, Riley launched her radio program MOD Love, which stands for modern love, with a fellow relationship coach on West Ashley’s Kinetic HiFi internet radio. Not long ago, however, her co-host decided to step away from the microphone to work on his book and Riley was left without an on-air partner.
In response, Riley decided to hit the pause button on her program until she determined what to do with the show. As she discussed the problem with her boyfriend, Steven Cardinal of Kinetic HiFi’s Cardinal James Show, the idea of hosting the show together came up.
“We figured it would either be awesome for our relationship or it would end it,” says Riley. “Fortunately, it’s been wonderful and it’s great to do the show from the perspective of a couple.”
Geared toward people in their 30s and 40s who are just re-entering the dating scene after a divorce or the end of a long-term relationship, Riley and Cardinal discuss practical tips and observations for navigating today’s dating scene – from meeting someone in person to connecting online.
“It’s really about dating and relationships in general. We do get questions about picking up dates, how to meet people, things like that. But we also answer questions about making dates work and getting to know people,” says Riley.
“Since Jodi and I both had to navigate the difficulties of dating as adults,” says Cardinal, “we thought it important to share all of our lessons learned with our listeners. And we’ve been able to make a relationship show that is fun to listen to.”
Riley isn’t just drawing from personal experience when it comes to giving important dating advice, however. With a degree in clinical psychology, Riley has worked for almost 20 years in the field of mental health, substance abuse and personal development, and currently offers her services as a Dating Mentor, speaker and noted blogger. And because of her longtime connections in the dating advice world, Riley has been able to welcome a wide variety of guests to the show, including special guest Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages, who made an appearance on the show’s official re-launch this past Thursday, January 30.
Other regular features of the show include Straight Talk with Steve, a segment wherein Cardinal offers practical advice about the dating scene, and the weekly Soulmates segment, courtesy of Soulmate Dance.
“This gives us a chance to address listener questions,” says Cardinal, “which also come in during the live show via phone, chat, or social media.”
“MOD Love is one of our longest running, most loved shows,” says Brad Cooper, co-founder of Kinetic HiFi. “We really couldn’t imagine a better host than Jodi, whose insights provide them with the tool necessary to enrich their lives and the lives of others. Simply put, it’s really a fun show!”
Listeners are welcome to call into the show anytime by calling 843-606-1314 or by joining in the live online chat on the Kinetic HiFi website.
