When the St. Andrews Fire Station needed a colorful facelift, street artist Crosby Jack was there, working with fellow artist JahSun to create a tribute both to the lives saved by the department as well as the preservation of nature in their vibrant, tree-filled mural facing the Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Highway 61 intersection.
In Columbia, Clayton Wooten gives the concrete capital a touch of character through his wall paintings and art shows.
And during his travels throughout the southeast, artist and Charleston native Jonathan Miller shares his talent in the intricate art of papercutting with thousands of kids through his children’s book series, Sammy the Wonder Dachshund.
These are just four of the artists that will be featured during the Graph & Graf show at Jericho Advisors in Avondale this Sunday, April 27, from 12-6 p.m. Ten artists specializing in the arts of graffiti and graphic design will be on hand at the office-turned-art gallery, displaying their works and talking with visitors about their mediums and processes.
The gallery showing, however, is only one part of a day-long tribute to the world of wall paintings and graphic creations in the Charleston area.
ChART, the nonprofit behind the incredible graffiti works gracing Alycia Alley behind the Savannah Highway Avondale shops and throughout the Park Circle area in North Charleston, will also be hosting an Art Walk event this Sunday in Avondale (see cover story).
Along with live music, dancing, improv performances and slam poetry, several artists will be working on live pieces and food trucks will be out in abundance. And if you get tired of the static arts, the Mount Pleasant-based Moondog Animation Studios will be showing several of their animated shorts and recent productions at the Jericho Advisor’s gallery.
Just about every shop in the Avondale area will be participating in the event, along with Roll With It Enterprises, OtherBrother Entertainment (www.facebook.com/OtherBrotherEntertainment), Wake Magazine (www.facebook.com/wakemagsc), the Redux Contemporary Art Center (www.facebook.com/groups/53235484053/), Art Mag Community (www.facebook.com/groups/172178882885524/), King of Pops, the Talent Freaks web series
(www.facebook.com/talentfreaktheseries), Charleston County School of the Arts Middle and High School, Snapcastr (www.facebook.com/snapcastr), WestOf Newspaper, Kinetic HiFi and more.
