Davis Coen calls the Memphis, Tenn. Area home, but he also has a warm place for Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ in West Ashley, where the contemporary country-blues guitarist/singer-songwriter has played dozens of times over the years. It’s no wonder that the boys over at Home Team have dubbed him their “House Man.” Coen returns to his home away from home at Home Team BBQ this Friday, Oct. 10 to play an intimate show at a venue that was recently named one of the Top Blues Bars in America.
Recent accomplishments for Coen have been regular airplay on XM/Sirius Satellite radio; inclusion as featured artist twice on Dan Aykroyd’s House Of Blues Radio Hour, and NPR’s Morning Edition, and World Cafe programs.
Also his music is credited on the DVD release of Martin Scorsese’s PBS special The Blues, the truTV reality TV show Lizard Lick Towing, independent films Fress Cut Grass (2004) and Mental Scars (2009), and on the DVD documentary about the music of the Hillcountry Mississippi blues matriarch Jesse Mae Hemphill, titled Dare You To Do It Again.
Coen has been touring the U.S. since his teens, either as a solo guitar and vocal act, or commonly accompanied by bass and drums configuration. He most commonly appears at clubs, bars, and festivals throughout the Southeast and mid-south. Of recent note, he has played twice at the historic King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Ark.
Coen has also enjoyed a dozen tours of Europe, promoting nine album releases. He has shared a bill or opened for many of the classic blues artists who influenced his music; including James Cotton, Junior Wells, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Big Jack Johnson, T-Model Ford, and David “Honeyboy” Edwards. He has also shared bills with such non-blues performers as Richie Havens, Mountain, Eric Burdon, Tito Puente, and Toots & The Maytals.
Singer/songwriter Davis Coen plays this Friday, Oct. 10 at Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ, located at 1205 Ashley River Road. For more information, call 225-7427 or visit www.hometeambbq.com.
