The Glass Onion is hosting the next tasting in a series of monthly onsite beverage events from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30 This tasting will feature “lesser known and affordable” wines from Grassroots Wine, a wholesaler whose portfolio is filled with small, family-owned producers. The wines will be paired along with seasonal snacks, such as collard green stuffed oysters and chicken liver mouse prepared by owner and chef Chris Stewart.
Bottles of the wine will also be available for purchase.  Some of the featured wines include Michel Delhommeau, Muscadet Cuvee St. Vincent 2014; Alfredo Bertolani, Lambrusco Rosso all’Antica 2014; Pietra Santa, Sangiovese 2010; and Isaac Fernandez Seleccion, Finca al Mata 2013.
Tickets are $10 with $5 going to Slow Food Charleston, the local chapter of the non-profit international organization Slow Food USA. Slow Food Charleston has been active for more than eight years and has continued to grow in membership, programming, and events. Part of the global grassroots movement, the board and members are dedicated to aligning itself the international organization’s mission to support, preserve, and promote local food systems and good nutrition for all. The local chapter is active in a number of community programs including Chefs in Schools and 10,000 Gardens in Africa Initiative. They also organize annual events such as the Art of Taste Dinner, Food Film Series, and quarterly potluck dinners and Slow Sips to name a few.
