This issue marks the 652nd weekly edition of West Of. Every Wednesday since February 2005, we have covered the good, the bad, and the ugly that has taken place in West Ashley. But this edition marks the end of an era and the dawning of a new one for West Of. One that I am personally very excited about because it gives us an opportunity to do a bigger, better paper both visually and journalistically.
Choosing quality over quantity, we have made the decision to convert West Of from a weekly newspaper to a monthly newsmagazine. We’re calling it the West Of Free Press, and it will still highlight West Ashley’s challenges and triumphs. But now it will come out once a month on bigger and better paper stock. It will have brighter colors, better photography, cover illustrations from local artists, and most importantly, more thorough, thoughtful, and in-depth articles on issues that impact our region. So that means there will be no issue the next two weeks and the first issue as the West Of Free Press will come out on March 1 and will be our annual Westie Awards issue, highlighting those folks who have done great things for West Ashley.
Stay tuned …
