Clucking It Up

Comedy clubs seem to always have funny and ridiculous names, like the Ha Ha Hut, The Laugh Factory, The Funny Bone, so it should not be all that surprising that a chicken wing place named d.d. Peckers’ would have enough of a sense of humor to host a comedy night. It is the first comedy night since they opened their doors 10 years ago this month. “I just got bored and thought we needed something to mix it up,” says co-owner Derek Harris.
On Thursday, Jan. 21, d.d. Peckers’ Wing Shack presents Comedy Night at the Shack with seasoned comedian Shaun Jones for a special evening of laughs and good food. Harris has a couple jokes of his own up his sleeve, like turning the “shack” into a swanky comedy club. “We’re actually going to have black linen tablecloths, candles, and even a faux brick wall behind the comedian. I thought pretty funny,” he says.
Peckers will also be offering a special menu that’s no laughing matter, including mussels and a prime rib, that Harris says is one of the best steaks you will find West of the Ashley.
But the food is just the appetizer for the evening. The main dish will be the comedy. Jones has more than 20 years experience as a stand-up comedian and actor. When he takes the stage, he mixes his talents before the audience, bakes his show just right, and serves up a unique dish for your comedic appetite.
Jones has appeared on several national television shows, such as B.E.T’s “Comic View”, B.E.T’s “One Mic Stand”, BounceTV’s “Off The Chain,”  Showtime’s “1 Amendment.” In 2003 he made his motion picture debut as a crooked poker player in the movie “Shade,” which starred Sylverster Stallone and Jamie Foxx.
Despite great ticket sales, Harris says this is probably a one-and-done event, but says he might consider having an annual Comedy Night at the Shack if all goes well and customers ask for it.
