Twice a year since 2011, Monster Music & Movies in West Ashley has hosted the Lowcountry’s only record convention. And in that time, record sales across the country have exploded. In 2007, Soundscan registered 994,000 vinyl LPs sold, and in 2014 it will be in excess of 8.25 million. Since Soundscan has been measuring sales, interest in records has never been higher. The Charleston Record expo returns for it’s fall installment this Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
At the Charleston Record Expo, vinyl record dealers from throughout the southeast will assemble in one location at West Ashley Shoppes and offer a wide variety of albums, 45s, 78s, and various memorabilia to the interested public.
The event is open to the public and admission is free. Attendants will range from young to old, casual observer to serious collector. Folks just getting started collecting records are encouraged to attend! This is not just for the hardcore collector!
Records from a wide variety of genres will be available for sale, some for $1, some for $100 or more, and everything in between. Experts will be on site offering appraisal to anyone interested in bringing in their own records. Platia Food Truck will be in attendance, serving up Greek food.
The Charleston Record Expo will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Monster Music & Movies, located at 946 Orleans Road, next to World Market. For more information, call 571-4657 or visit www.monstermusicsc.com.
