Hundreds of students and parents participate in Math Night at Stono Park Elementary

Stono Park Elementary School held its second annual Candyland Math Night on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Hundreds of students and family members had a “delicious” time practicing math concepts at candy-themed stations throughout the school, such as Gumdrop Geometry, Cupcake Counting, Peppermint Place Value, and Milky Way Mass, and so many more. Families even got to play a life-sized version of Candyland.
To partner with families, Stono Park hosts multiple events throughout the school year. However, Candyland Math Night is one of the scholars’ favorites.
Prior to the event, families are encouraged to complete a STEM activity at home which was to create a candy creation that is used for prizes in the Candy Walk. During the event, scholars enjoy playing games, collecting stickers in their candy passports, and seeing their teachers dressed in Candyland costumes.
After all the fun, scholars were given take-home kits to play math games with their families and friends.
“This event, which takes months to plan, is led by our awesome parent advocate, Traci Alter and math coach, Reagan Briggs,” explained Principal Kimberly Richards. “Staff members, including our district social worker, Chelsea Ostop, pitch in to create the decorations and games. Everyone enjoys seeing our scholars learn and have fun with their families. The look on their faces is priceless.”
