Heading back to school after the restful Christmas break is often dreaded by students and teachers. Yet children at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, in West Ashley, had lots of reasons to celebrate this year.
On Tuesday, January 6, each of the classes held Epiphany parties, complete with scavenger hunts around the school, following star shaped clues to find Baby Jesus, and eating star cookies, and mini king cakes, with hot chocolate. Then last Thursday, to celebrate their “new look in the new year” the school held a Logo Reveal Party to launch the school’s new logo, and the rollout of the private Catholic school’s updated website (www.scbss.org).
Parishioner Craig McLaughlin of McLaughlin Design, and father of 8th grader Russell McLaughlin, created the logo and offered some insight into its development. “Navy Blue honors the traditional school uniform that has been worn by thousands of students educated in these classrooms over the past 67 years,” says McLaughlin.
“Kelly Green celebrates our church’s award-winning sports programs, and reminds us that the school is a ministry of the church,” explains the James Island-based designer. “The chalice and host reflect the beauty of the stained glass window and the meaning behind the school’s name.”
Mrs. Tracy, the school’s principal, thanked the school’s Marketing Committee and noted that both of these improvements grew out of a parent satisfaction survey conducted by the school board.
At the Logo Party, Father Joseph Romanoski, Blessed Sacrament’s Administrator, blessed the new logo and reminded the students that the logo will quickly become synonymous with the school’s longstanding commitment to Catholic education.
All in attendance received a water bottle sporting the school’s new logo, to commemorate the event.
