Nearly 100 runners and walkers turned out for the inaugural WA 5K: A Dash Thru the Den run/walk on Saturday, May 23 at West Ashley High School. Hosted by the WAHS’s DECA, an organization that prepares young leaders and entrepreneurs for careers and education in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other business areas. The entire event was conceived by students, was planned by students, and directed by students.
WA 5K: A Dash Thru the Den was created to serve two purposes: First, to create an annual community-wide event on our campus where people could come together and have a great time with their friends. And secondly, to help raise funds to pay for members of DECA to attend the annual International Career Development Conference.
This year 15 West Ashley High students are going to the conference in Orlando. They hope to be able to take even more students to the conference next year in Nashville in 2016.
