Somebody call the firemen! Someone is spray-painting graffiti on the St. Andrews Fire Station!
Cool your jets, Bucky. They’re supposed to be there, and they’re muralists, not vandals.
Crosby Jack and JahSun, a creative duo that just returned from completing five massive spray-paint murals in Belize, have been hired by the district to brighten up the outside of the station and the district’s offices.
The project began last Wednesday and was to be finished by press time. On Friday, the two were still rolling, having done the grunt work and were now spicing up two massive tree trunks.
JahSun said the attraction to trees for both of them was that they stood for a community finding a place to come together while still honoring Mother Nature. “We’re big fans of her, Mother Nature,” said “Croz.”
JahSun added that, considering the amazing work the firemen do for the community and the level of safety they provide, “they deserve to look at something awesome” when not fighting fires or saving people.
The mural, mid-stage, was redolent of purples and mauves, verdant greens, and kids blowing bubblegum bubbles, perhaps tips of the Rasta hat to JahSun’s other passion, illustrating children’s books.
Both muralists loved the idea of helping to beautify West Ashley, as they already have at other spots throughout the community. JahSun’s work can be seen adorning buildings in Isle of Palm, while Croz’s work is a little closer by, having done a mural that line the alley of the funky shops at Avondale Point.
