Celebrate Jamaica this Sunday, Aug. 28 with wine and food during the 3rd Annual S.C. Reggae Jerk & Wine Festival from noon to 7:30 p.m. at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Sample the succulent taste of Jamaican jerk and sip a variety of wines, while listening to the sounds of multi-faceted Reggae band Crucial Fiya and others.
Guests receive a complimentary wine glass to commemorate the event and jerk sample pairing with Irie Jerk wine. The event also will feature the showing of the documentary “Queen Nanny: Legendary Maroon Chieftainess” in the Magnolia Orientation Theater. There will also be a Dominoes tournament, Jamaican Ludo games, and a hot pepper eating contest.
Advanced tickets are $25 per person. It includes a wine glass, jerk, and wine pair tasting. Tickets for designated drivers and young adults are $15, but a wine glass and the wine tasting are not included. Tickets at the jerk event gate, not the Magnolia kiosk, are $35 on the day of the event. Children under 12 are free. Parking is free. The ticket price includes complimentary admission to Magnolia Gardens.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Healthy Lifestyle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and adults in Charleston and Jamaica live active and healthy lives. Donations of school supplies, soccer balls, shin guards, arts and crafts, cotton fabric and hand quilting thread will be collected at the event.
