Last week 38 Charleston County School District (CCSD) schools were announced as Palmetto Gold and Silver Award winners. Four of them are West Ashley schools. Founded in 1998, the Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards is a state-based program developed to recognize schools for their success in academic achievement and closing the achievement gap. Within those two categories, a school may be awarded either gold or silver designation. The awards announced last week are based on data from the state report card from the 2013-2014 school year.
St. Andrew’s Schools of Math & Science, Ashley River Creative Arts, Orange Grove Charter Elementary, and West Ashley High School all received gold marks for general performance and Ashley River Creative Arts also received a gold award for “closing the achievement gap.”
“Congratulations to our schools, principals, teachers and staff who are being recognized by the state for the amazing work they do every day,” said Gerrita Postlewait, CCSD Superintendent. “Our educators give so much of themselves and these awards are recognition of that commitment. They are well deserved.”
