All bars love a good drinking holiday, especially when it falls in the middle of the week, giving folks an excuse to go to the pub on a Tuesday, for example. But this coming Tuesday, Feb. 9 is not just any Tuesday. It’s Fat Tuesday. The official end of the Mardi Gras season. And Mardi Gras is not just another drinking holiday. No offense to St. Patrick’s Day or Cinico de Mayo, but Fat Tuesday is all about indulgences and therefore, the best of them all.
And while Voodoo is undoubtedly and uniquely a Charleston bar that just so happens to be influenced by kitschy Hawaiian tiki bar, it also pays homage to the dark and mysterious dives of New Orleans. From its gris-gris inspired name to its undeniable affinity for jazz music, Voodoo is the biggest fan of Fat Tuesday and New Orleans in general.
Voodoo will be celebrating Fat Tuesday on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Quentin Baxter and friends are getting the party started at 6:30 with the real deal New Orleans-style Jazz. Then Quiana Parler and friends take over the dance party at 8:30 p.m. and won’t stop ’til the party is over at 2 a.m.
There will be a Fat Tuesday cocktail and drink specials courtesy of Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and Bud Light and there will also be some New Orleans-inspired food specials coming from the kitchen. Of course there will be beads and dancing and patrons are encouraged to dress for the occasion.
The Fat Tuesday Party is Tuesday, February 9, from 4 p.m.-2 a.m. at Voodoo Tiki Bar, located at 15 Magnolia Road. There’s $5 cover. For more information, call 769-0228 or visit www.voodootikibar.com.
