Piccolo Arrives in the West

The Charleston Acting Studio has been a James Island resident since 2007, though its acting roots in Charleston go back to 1989 when founder Sheri Grace Wenger hosted carbaret and dinner theater at the Colony House Restaurant, now known as the Harbor Club. In 1999, Wenger became a coordinator for Piccolo Spoleto’s theater series and since then her production company has put on a number of beautiful, hilarious and heartwarming shows. This year will be no different as the Charleston Acting Studio is scheduled to perform four plays as part of Piccolo, including Tell Me on a Sunday, Children of Eden, Driving Miss Daisy and Peggy the Pint-Sized Pirate.
While Tell Me on a Sunday and Children of Eden will take place at the Footlight Players’ Theater located in downtown Charleston, Driving Miss Daisy and Peggy the Pint-Sized Pirate will bring Piccolo to the islands with performances at the Charleston Acting Studio located at 915 Folly Road, #E.
Peggy the Pint-Sized Pirate follows the life of a girl too small to be taken seriously as a pirate. When her pirate friends are shipwrecked and taken captive by an angry sea monster, however, it’s up to Peggy to save them. Driving Miss Daisy is a classic tale of an elderly Southern Jewish woman and her compassionate African-American chauffeur, Hoke Coburn. Their iconic tale of pride, changing times, and the transformative power of friendship has warmed the hearts of millions world-wide and will be showing at the Studio on May 30-31 and June 5 at 7pm; May 26 at 2pm; May 27 and June 1 at 3pm; and June 2 at 4pm. Apart from participating in Piccolo and presenting regular plays at the studio, Charleston Acting Studio also offers summer camps and acting classes during the year.
