In Dist. 9, local attorney Peter Shahid is challenging incumbent Aubry Alexander. Shahid’s family has been prominent in the Charleston business community since the early 1900s. Alexander has strong West Ashley ties, he graduated from Middleton High School and is a local realtor.
INCUMBENT: Aubry Alexander
Having served on City Council since 2007, Aubry Alexander was Mayor Pro Tem for 2010. He plays a big role in the Old Charleston District Task Force and chairs the real estate committee for City Council, as well as severing on seveal other committees and boards.
CHALLENGER: Peter Shahid
Peter Shahid believes that while the City has sharpened its economic focus on revitalizing King Street, it seems as if it has ignored West Ashley until recently. His main platforms for running for council are economic redevelopment, recreation, and public safety and services.
