A former collegiate soccer player, comedian Grant Lyon decided to pursue a career on stage instead of on the field. He started his career in the vibrant San Francisco comedy scene, where the San Francisco Weekly described him as “a hilariously sharp observer, not one of those tired white-guy bellyachers.”
On Thursday, June 18, Lyon will visit Charleston and perform at West Ashley’s unofficial home for standup comedy, the Tin Roof. Opening the night will be local comic Jessica Mickey, who is no stranger to the Tin Roof stage and Jeremy McClellan, who recently was voted “Charleston’s Best Comic” by the readers of the Charleston City Paper.
A seasoned stand-up and improve player, Lyon won the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival last year, beating out comedians from all over the country, and was chosen as a New Face in comedy at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. As well as performing in a number of other prestigious comedy festivals including The Great American Comedy Festival, Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival, and the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Lyon performed on the TV show Comics Unleashed.
Lyon has appeared on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Radio Show and is heard regularly on Sirius/XM satellite radio. As well as being a contributing writer for the Huffington Post, the short film he wrote and starred in, Interview Date, was eligible for a short film Academy Award in 2013. Funny or Die, MSN, Huffington Post, and others are among the sites that have featured Grant’s sketch videos on their home pages. You might also recognize Grant from a number of national commercials including AT&T, Johnsonville Sausage, CiCi’s Pizza, and others.
You can see Grant Lyon, along with Jessica Mickey and Jeremy McClellan on Thursday, June 18 at Tin Roof, located at 1117 Magnolia Road. For more information, call 571-0775 or visit www.charlestontinroof.com.
