Over the last couple weeks the staff at West Of had the opportunity to visit some of West Ashley’s best burger joints and dive bars in search of the most outrageous burgers in our part of Charleston. The quest was both daunting and delicious. We sought out places that offer their own specialty burgers. Unfortunately we missed some of the areas best “build-your-own” burger destinations, but I think our doctors are probably stopped when we did. For their pure uniqueness, these are the Top 10 Most Outrageous burgers in West Ashley.
10. The Beach Bar’s Lava Burger
A half-pound burger stuffed with molten cheddar cheese and topped the jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, and onion.
West Of’s Take: The Lava Burger made the list because they put the cheese on the inside of the burger and then added some spicy jalapeños just for fun.
9. Tin Roof’s McRoof
Double patty burger with Russian dressing, white American cheese, onion, romaine & homemade pickles.
West Of’s Take: This one had a nostalgic factor. Reminiscent of a Big Mac, but with a better, zippier special sauce and a way better burger.
8. Charleston Burger Company’s Killer Beehive
American cheese, bacon, a stack of buttermilk battered onion rings & honey barbeque sauce.
West Of’s Take: A fun visual and a pretty tasty burger too. Not just a fried onion or a pile of onion straws, the Beehive has a giant tower of perfectly-fried onion rings with a sweet honey barbeque sauce.
7. The Roost’s Brunch Burger
Cooked to order, hollandaise, bacon, cheddar, fried onions, and fried egg.
West Of’s Take: This has to be the world’s best hangover food. It’s also pretty darn good sober. The hollandaise really pulls all the flavors together.
6. Mex 1 Coastal Cantina’s Hamburger Con Queso Torta
Two hand spanked burger patties, with cheese, cilantro onion relish, burger sauce, lettuce, tomato and fresh guacamole.
West Of’s Take: A Mexicali take on the American classic. This torta is the best of both worlds … and countries.
5. Voodoo Tiki Bar’s Bacon Cheeseburger Tacos
Just as it should be, just in taco form! Served with bacon, onions, pickles, and special sauce.
West Of’s Take: While it’s the duck club tacos that put Voodoo’s fancy bar food on the map, it’s the cheeseburger taco that is the star of the gourmet taco menu. Burgers are great, but tacos are such a great delivery system!
4. Triangle Char & Bar’s Saltimbocca
A grass fed beef patty, Marsala mushroom, mozzarella, sage, Prosciutto.
West Of’s Take: Triangle has a whole stable of outrageously delicious options in their often-rotating grass-fed burger menu. Currently the Saltimbocca is not only one of the most ambitious burgers, it’s also one of the most delicious burgers around.
3. Sesame Burgers & Beer’s The Memphis
Hormone free all natural angus beef patty topped with house made crunchy peanut butter, bacon, and banana slices.
West Of’s Take: Elvis was the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and this burger is the king of Sesame’s outrageous offerings. Peanut butter, bananas, and bacon was a favorite of The King and we’re pretty sure he’d like this tribute.
2. King Street Grille’s Mac & Cheese Burger
A half-pound burger with fried Mac & Cheese on Top. Served on Texas Toast.
West Of’s Take: While KSG has a burger on it’s menu called the Heart Stopper, you may also want to have a cardiologist on hand for this one. Fried mac and cheese on a burger is ridiculous … and brilliant.
1. Southside 17’s The Bellagio Burger
Tender Kobe beef, grilled to your liking, topped with caramelized onions, lettuce, and tomato. Finished with melted smoked Gouda and portabella Newcastle mayo.
West Of’s Take: The fact that the folks at Southside 17 take a piece of some of the finest beef in the world and ground it up to make a cheeseburger is outrageous enough. But then add smoky Gouda cheese and it’s outrageously delicious.
