Next week students, faculty, and family members will pile into the main gymnasium at West Ashley High School to celebrate as three of their own sign nation letters of intent on at the school’s National Signing Day ceremony at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The three seniors that will be recognized are Dalton Mixon, boys soccer; Dexter Freeman, football; and Nick Denton, baseball. More student-athletes may be added between now and Feb. 1.

Mixon, is a three-year letter recipient for boys soccer, plans to attend USC-Aiken where he will study Exercise Science.

Denton, a two-year letter recipient for baseball, plans to attend Toccoa Falls College where he will study Sports Management.

Freeman is a North South All Star, has been named All Region in Region 7-5A for two years in a row, has rushed for 4,000 plus yards in his career, was named the 2015 Lowcountry Offensive Player of the Year by TruMoo Friday Night Rivals, was selected as a running back for the All Lowcountry Football Team’s first-team offense for two years in a row, and was named the running back for the 5A Statewide All-State Offense by the South Carolina High League in 2016. He plans to play football for either Newberry College or North Greenville University upon graduation from West Ashley High. Freeman has not yet declared a major.

The student-athletes and their families will also be invited invited to attend Charleston Country School District’s National Signing Day Ceremony in the Board Room of 75 Calhoun St at 11:30am following the ceremony at WAHS.
