West Ashley High School ended a three-game losing streak last Friday night against Conway High School. After two weeks of giving up leads in the second half against Ft Dorchester and Wando, the Wildcats continued pounding Conway in the second half for a 49-14 win.
WAHS scored seven touchdowns complemented by two pick -sixes by the defense in the second half. The Wildcats were led by Cameron Byas who had 99 yards rushing, followed by Marquize Jenkins with 86 yards, and Quarterback Pedro Manigault with 81 yards rushing and 110 yards passing. Bobby Ruff, returning after a game off due to concussion, had five sacks. Caroline Cashion also had a career high of 7 PATs in 7 attempts.
The scoring started off with some trickery as Logan Cooke caught a 42-yard pass from tight end Anthony Vincelli. Jenkins then scored from 2 yards out and Pedro Manigault ran a 6 yard keeper to round out the first half scoring,  giving the Wildcats a 21-0 halftime lead.
The second half included a second touchdown by both Jenkins and Manigault. The Wildcat’s defense got into the act with two spectacular interceptions that were returned for touchdowns, one by Tyreek Campbel for 60 yards and the score and a fourth quarter interception and 53 yard return for a touchdown by Anthony Dobbins.
WAHS head coach Bobby Marion faces his old team this week when the Wildcats host an undefeated Stratford (8-0) this Friday, Oct. 25 at Wildcat Stadium.
