Where do wild things run? At Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel. The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission (CCPRC) hosts its third annual Where the Wild Things Run on Saturday, April 26. This 5K is another in a series of trail runs offered this year by CCPRC, which recently hosted the Mullet Haul 5 and 10-mile trail run at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center.
Runners will make their way through the trails of the Caw Caw Interpretive Center and will be rewarded with beautiful vistas and hopefully a sighting of a “wild thing” or two.
Rich in natural, cultural and historical resources, Caw Caw Interpretive Center is a 654-acre site, known for its wildlife. The beautiful site features over seven miles of trails with trailside exhibits, elevated boardwalks through wetlands, historic rice fields, a former tea farm, wildlife habitats, and more.
The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. on April 26. An award ceremony with light food and beverages will be held following the race. T-shirts are guaranteed for participants who register prior to April 19. This race is for ages 10 and up. Ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone; however, chaperones do not require registration or participation in the race. Dogs are not allowed at Caw Caw.
Free kids activities are also being introduced at this year’s race, offering parents participating in the race a great opportunity to keep the little ones busy during the run! Kids ages 6-12 are invited to try out a wild things-inspired yoga class, make a monster mask, and cast tracks of wild things in the park. Activities are offered between 8:30 and 10 a.m.
Where the Wild Things Run is brought to you by The Foot Store, Black Bean Company, Palmetto Brewing Company, Earthfare, and the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission.
Online registration for Where the Wild Things Run as well as the kids’ activities is open now through April 25. Late registration and packet pickup will be available on race day from 7-8 a.m. Registration fees are $34. Residents of Charleston County receive a discounted fee of $28 when registering in advance. Register for the Where the Wild Things Run 5K online at www.charlestoncountyparks.com/wtwtr or call 795-4386.
