The West Ashley High School girls’s golf team recently competed in the Lower State Tournament in Sumter. The Wildcats golf program continues to improve each year, finishing 11th in the State for the AAAA division this year.
Sophomore Reagan Pippin and Taylor Houston played a big part in the team’s success in 2014. Prior to joining the golf team, neither Pippin nor Houston had any golf experience, but the two friends were influenced to give it a try. Pippen and Taylor, who are the youngest West Of Athletes of the Week thus far, quickly demonstrated that they both have natural talent for the sport.
“Taylor (Houston) and Reagan (Pippin) are great additions to the WAHS Girls Golf Team,” says WAHS golf coach Jenna Taylor. “As first year players, they exceeded my expectations as they improved their game of golf and filled the number three and four positions on the team.”
According to Pippin, golf and other sports is her way of expressing herself. Houston says she enjoys a good challenge and golf has provided exactly that for her.
“I appreciate their commitment to the team, and I hope they continue to work hard at improving their game during the off season.”
