Recently three West Ashley High robotics teams finished in 1st place overall in the Bluffton New Year Bash Vex Robotics Competition (VRC) earning invitations to Nationals, which will take place in Iowa, in April.
Prior to this competition, one of the WAHS robots had already qualified for the state and national competitions. The primary focus for this competition was to earn similar invitations for at least one of the other two WAHS robots.
In the qualifying matches West Ashley High’s robots finished in 1st, 2nd, and 14th place. The three robots were able to form an alliance going into the final matches and destroy their competition, earning three 1st place finishes. All three robots went undefeated throughout the finals and won the final match 186-43. This means that the entire West Ashley High Robotics Team has qualified for the state and national competitions.
West Ashley High’s W.A.R.P. Drive Team A, B, and C earned the Judges Excellence Award, the Programming Skills Competition Award, and the Sportsmanship Award. This marked the first time that the WAHS Robotics Team earned six separate trophies at a single competition. In fact, the only award they were unable to obtain was the top middle school award.
The WAHS Robotics Team, W.A.R.P. Drive, is currently raising money to attend the Competitive Robotics Enhancing and Advancing Technology Education (CREATE) U.S. Open Robotics Championship, also known as Nationals, in Council Bluffs, Iowa in April. The team needs help from the West Ashley community in order to earn enough money to travel to Nationals.
