As a three-time winner of The Knot’s “Best of Weddings,” Ashley Bakery has earned a professional reputation not only for incredible decorating skills, but also for delicious cakes. So when they offered to make West Of a special “birthday” cake for our 10th anniversary cover, we could hardly contain our selves or our taste buds.
The end result was stunning. It was a multi-tiered beauty with our logo and a Coburg Cow weathervane pointing West. Each layer featured a different delicious flavor.
While the cake was to honor West Of for reaching the decade mark, it should be noted that Ashley Bakery is embarking upon their 27th year of making award-winning cakes and breads right here in West Ashley. Eileen and Bernard Ferri bought Ashley Bakery in 1988 and it has been a family-owned West Ashley institution ever since.
A Charleston native, Eileen Ferri is known for creating signature breads for several restaurants in Charleston as well as delicious cakes and pastries.
Ferri’s daughters Hayden, Alicia, and Elizabeth all lend their talents to the bakery wherever and whenever they’re needed. Husbands, cousins, and close family friends also do their part.
Hayden Campbell has been decorating cakes for more than a decade. Her designs have been featured in several magazines including: The Knot, Charleston Weddings Magazine, Southern Living Weddings, In Style Weddings Magazine, Unveiled, Southern Bride, and American Cake Decorating.
For the West Of 10th Anniversary cake, cake designer Jenny Vu says it was a real team effort between herself, Campbell, and Lani Vandepole.
