10,000 Trees for Charleston, the municipal initiative begun in 2012 to improve livability, reported 80 new trees were planted in West Ashley over the last year.
The most recent planting included seven Crepe Myrtles along the median of St. Andrews Boulevard and Old Towne Road. The initiative focuses on planting trees along Charleston’s corridors.
10,000 Trees is also offering 148 Live Oaks to local residents to plant on their own property. Like the trees planted over the past two years, the Live Oaks were donated by local private citizens and companies.
Charleston Hardwood Trees and the Ravenel Family donated the Live Oaks in honor of Arbor Day, which was last Friday, Dec. 5.
The city has also partnered with the Charleston Horticultural Society, and the Town of James Island.
If you are interested in adopting a tree, call 579-7501, or email scalesj@charleston-sc.gov. All monetary donations are tax deductible.
