A memorial run and crossfit competition will be held in Mt. Pleasant in honor of a fallen West Ashley woman.
Two years ago, the body of Amanda Jo Kalman, 25, was found in her Forest Lakes subdivision home, the victim of a brutal stabbing. Her husband has been arrested and charged with her murder.
Authorities believe her death to be the result of domestic violence. In 2005, Kalman had apparently signed a criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature complaint against him, according to reports.
Amanda’s late dad, Irwin “Kal” Kalman had been the president of Kal’s furniture, a West Ashley mainstay for years.
The event, sponsored by the local chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women and the Mt. Pleasant Police Department Victim Services, will take place from 9 a.m. – noon on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Memorial Park, located at 99 Harry M. Hallman, Jr. Blvd. Proceeds benefit emergency services of domestic violence victims.
After Run/Walk there will be live music at the park. The 5k run/walk is $20 and the crossfit competition will cost $30. Kids under 18 are only $15. Additional costs for those registering the day of the event, so go to active.com to sign up early.
