Re-Trend, a nomadic clothing swap started by local fashionista Lindsey Chambers (also this newspaper’s sales manager) will be setting up shop from 5-8 p.m. this Sunday, Aug. 17 at the Tin Roof in West Ashley.
“It’s a fun way to keep your closet fresh, cute, and unique without paying department store prices for it,” says Chambers, who can often be found at yard sales, thrift stores, and consignment boutiques. She started Re-Trend a couple years ago and holds about two a year at various locations, plus sets up “swap shops” at events such as the Charleston County Earth Day Celebration and The Carolina Green Fair.
Bring your clean, gently-used, good quality women’s and men’s clothing of all shapes, colors, and sizes, as well as shoes and accessories such as purses, belts, hats, and scarves. “We ask that you bring a maximum of 10 items or less. This is a true swap, so if you bring five items, you can take five new items,” says Chambers.
When you arrive, you pay a $1 swap fee to enter, then you will receive a voucher for the number of items you brought and that’s how many items you can take. Additional items can be purchased for $3 apiece.
Not only is Sunday appropriately National Thrift Day, but this weekend also marks Homeless Animals Day. So Re-Trend has teamed up with the Charleston Animal Society (CAS) and is urging swappers to bring donations such as cleaners, towels, blankets, and office supplies for CAS and in turn get one free item at the swap.
The folks at Tin Roof will be bringing out The Lucky Puppy Truck, where you can purchase homemade treats, puppy “ice cream,” grooming supplies, and toys. Ten percent of all Lucky Puppy sales will also be donated to CAS. Food and drinks will be available for purchase

Re-Trend Clothing Swap will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 5-8p.m. at the Tin Roof 1117 Magnolia Road. For more information, email Lindsey Chambers at sales@goodfootprint.com.
