On Sunday, Dec. 15, artist Sarah Boyts Yoder will unveil her latest collection of daring, mixed media pieces at Jericho Advisors in Avondale, West Ashley, during her solo gallery show “Nothing Passes, This Too Shall Pass.”
Created as part of her week-long residency at the highly selective Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Yoder used materials such as pencil, spray paint and house paint to create this collection of multi-layered pieces influenced by children’s books as well as the post-World War II art movement of Abstract Expressionism.
“Having so much concentrated, focused time [at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts] allowed me to move forward in my work at a rate I’ve never experienced.  I was able to create lots of work and in a much larger studio.  The space I had allowed me to see everything on a bigger scale.  This led to so many new discoveries and connections.  I’m really grateful for the experience and excited to show the work at Jericho,” says Yoder.
The pieces, Yoder says, are stories in themselves, each possessing a narrative that tells of a journey, a hardship, a triumph, a commitment to endure in any form.
A graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, where she received her BFA, as well as James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she received her MFA in 2006, Yoder’s work has been showcased in several galleries throughout Charleston including Michael Mitchell, Flagship Gallery, and Stems. Yoder has also been featured in multiple area publications for her work, including Art Mag, Skirt! and Coastal Living.
The reception for Yoder’s gallery opening will take place from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, at Jericho Advisors with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and libations. The event is free and open to the public, and viewings of Yoder’s work will be available during the reception as well as during gallery and regular office hours.
