The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.
November 8 | Vandalism
Employees at a Savannah Highway auto dealership reported six expensive cars on the lot having spider-webbed cracks in their windows, apparently from a BB-gun. Police investigating the incident also discovered that several of the lamps of the overhead lamp poles had been shot. Video surveillance showed several men on the scene, including one who crawled in a 10-foot-deep concrete drainage ditch to get under the lot’s fencing.
November 8 | Criminal domestic violence, simple assault
A woman turned herself into police for having earlier hit her boyfriend in the forehead with a baseball bat, as well as smashing the window of his truck. The woman told police that she met with the man at a Savannah Highway fast food joint to return his wallet to him, and they got into a heated argument. At some point, the woman threw his wallet on the ground and walked over to where his truck was parked nearby and began to assault it with the bat. When the man tried to intervene, the woman said she inadvertently hit him in the head.
November 8 | Burglary, breaking and entering
A Sam Rittenberg Boulevard business owner reported a break-in after garbage collectors informed him his metal backdoor was open. Officers observed fresh damage to the door, and then made sure the building was clear of intruders. Once in, the owner discovered a host of items had been stolen, including $1,500 in quarters, and $900 in coupons.
November 8 | Criminal domestic violence
An Evergreen Street man told police that his girlfriend returned home having been drinking, and attacked him as he was in bed watching television. The man reported that his girlfriend broke a flowerpot in the front room, and then proceeded to bring a folding chair into the bedroom, calling him a “whore,” and then began to throw miscellaneous items at him. She then fetched a mop, brought it back into the bedroom, and broke it on the floor. The man then attempted to leave the apartment, but was blocked by the woman, who then went to grab a broom with which to attack the man. The man said that on his way out of the apartment, the woman pushed him from behind and through a screen door, breaking it.
November 9 | Motor vehicle theft
A woman told police that someone stole her car after she left it parked with the keys in it to help victims of an auto accident at the corner of Magnolia Road and 5th and Maryville Street. The woman said after she helped one of the victims, she returned to where her car had been parked, only to find it gone. A firefighter on the scene of the accident was able to provide a description of a man seen driving off in the car. Additionally, a nearby storeowner was able to capture some of what happened on a video surveillance system.
November 9 | Vandalism
A Treescape Drive man told police that his live-in girlfriend had destroyed some of his property, including a $200 cigar “humidifier.” The woman told police she had a “panic attack” after reading a note the man left saying he wouldn’t be home that night. When the officer noted that the woman had only “selectively” destroyed the boyfriend’s belongings, the woman said she “got mad and broke his stuff.”
November 9 | Burglary, breaking and entering
An employee at an Ashley River Road convenience store was able to access surveillance video that showed a man throwing a rock through the front door, and then kick it in, hop the counter, and grab three cartons of Newport cigarettes. A minute later, the man returned, and stole the rest of a box of that contained 27 cartons of Newports and left through the front. Total value of the cigarettes: $1,350.
