The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.
September 13 | DRUNKENNESS
Neighbors along Old Towne Road complained that a drunken man was coming up and knocking on the doors of their homes. When police arrived, they observed a man stumbling in front of a home with watery, bloodshot eyes, unable to form coherent sentences. When asked if he had any medical issues, the man told police he had drank five quarts of liquor.
September 13 | ROBBERY, KNIFE
An Orleans Road bank employee informed police that a man had just used a knife to rob the bank. Tellers gave the man an undetermined amount of money, and he then fled. Police employed a tracking dog to try and locate the man.
September 13 | SHOPLIFTING
A woman being arrested at the West Ashley Wal-Mart for shoplifting a host of items, told police that “all I wanted to do was steal a pair of underwear for my son and I forgot about the other stuff.” Loss prevention employees at the store stopped the woman and found a ring, a package of children’s underwear, several pens, and a pair of headphones in her purse. “I did something wrong and I’m sorry,” said the woman.
September 14 | INJURED PARTY
Police responded to a Windermere Boulevard home in reference to a reported overdose. Police found a man lying in the hallway of the residence, unresponsive. While in an ambulance, the man regained consciousness and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
September 14 | AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, FIREARM
A Sam Rittenberg Boulevard fast-food employee told police that a disgruntled customer returned to the restaurant and began yelling, and then raised his shirt, revealing a firearm. The man had complained earlier while going through the drive thru that he had not received part of his order, and refused to leave, but drove off after the employee shut the window. The man returned five minutes later and yelled at the employee to “get your [expletive] a- out here!” The employee, seeing the gun, ran back inside the restaurant and the man drove off.
September 14 | USING A VEHICLE WITHOUT CONSENT
A Sam Rittenberg Boulevard car rental agency told police that a customer had not returned a 2016 Camaro more than three weeks after its due date. A repossession employee contacted the customer, who informed him the car was in a North Charleston body shop. When the repo man went to get the car, the body shop refused to turn over the vehicle, and said he needed to get a police report.
September 15 | MISSING PERSON
A woman told police that her husband had been missing for 24 hours since she dropped him off in a West Ashley parking lot to catch a ride for work the day before. The husband, who apparently has a history of habitual drug use, told his boss the day before he had to leave work early that day as his wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer, which was not the case. The man’s wife said he had not used drugs in over six months, but had recently purchased hypodermic needles and had been “behaving strangely.”
September 15 | ASSISTING OTHER AGENCIES
Police found a car that matched a vehicle used in a bank robbery two days prior parked in a parking lot in front of a Savannah Highway restaurant. Entering the restaurant, police found the owner of the car was an employee there. They also discovered the employee had an outstanding warrant, and arrested her.
September 15 | THEFT FROM A MOTOR VEHICLE
A resident of an Ashley River Road apartment told police that someone had broken into her car where it was parked near her residence, and stolen several items that included her son’s $400 baseball bat.
September 15 | CRIMINAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
A Westmoreland Avenue woman told police that her boyfriend assaulted her by tapping her in the head with a 10-pound weight, poking her in the eyes, and pressing his fist into her cheek so hard that it cut her gums. The woman said the attack, which occurred with their child sleeping in the room with her, came after she texted the boyfriend that it was too late to come home, and to stay where he’d been that night.
