The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.
August 15 | SIMPLE ASSAULT
Several men jumped out of a car and assaulted a woman riding a moped down Sam Rittenberg Boulevard. The woman reported that their car swerved close to her moped, and that she threw a rock at the car as a warning. The men inside the car motioned for her to pull over, and then jumped her, striking her repeatedly with their fists in her head and face. Apparently, video surveillance at a nearby store captured some of the events on tape.
August 17 | THEFT FROM BUILDING
A woman reported a local moving crew may have stolen tens of thousands dollars worth of her belongings. The woman said she hired the movers to meet her at a storage facility on Ashley River Road, whereupon they filled their truck with her household belongings. The movers said they needed to make two trips, and after dropping off the first wave at her new Mt. Pleasant home, said they would double back to the storage unit. After waiting several hours for their return, the woman went to the storage facility, where she found a suitcase was missing containing $10,000 in vintage coins, $5,000 in vintage bill, and $10,000 in cash.
August 17 | WIRE FRAUD
A West Ashley doctor reported that an online transaction on her new bank account withdrew over $1,500 without her permission. The physician said the account normally was used to pay bills, like power and water.
August 17 | ROBBERY, HAND
A man walked into a Savannah Highway bank and robbed the business, making off with an undetermined amount of cash. The man made his escape on foot.
August 17 | USING A VEHICLE WITHOUT CONSENT
A man reported his friend had stolen and driven off with his truck from a Savannah Highway convenience store while he was inside the store, telling management that his friend had stolen a box of Snickers from the store. While the man was inside the store, the friend jumped into the drivers seat and drove off. A separate incident report alleged that the friend had come into the store first, told the clerk he was hungry, and asked if she could “help him out.” When told no, the friend allegedly grabbed a $36 box of candy bars and fled.
August 18 | BURGLARY, BREAKING AND ENTERING
Several homes along Pinckney Park Drive were entered and stolen from. One neighbor reported missing a 1.32-carat solitaire engagement ring, and lesser-valued jewelry. Another neighbor reported a similar crime, with six missing pieces valued at over $2,000.
August 18 | AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, OBJECT
An employee at a West Ashley car wash and detailing shop reported a new employee hit him in the back of the head with a ceramic coffee mug, causing it to shatter. The employee said the two became involved in a physical fight after he had “called out” the new man for doing a bad job. After the two were separated, the new hire hit the man in the back of the head with the mug.
August 18 | SIMPLE ASSAULT
A juvenile girl covered in blood told police that her boyfriend struck her in the head as he drove down Savannah Highway after she slapped him in the face for allegedly cheating on her, and then pulled her out of the cart and struck her multiple times in the face and head with his fist. The juvenile told police that she had borrowed his cellphone and saw where his ex-girlfriend was calling him, and confronted the man. The juvenile’s father responded to the scene and took her home.
