Citadel Mall security cameras caught on video a man attempting to pry open a kiosk business’ safe with a yellow-tipped crowbar. The man and two apparent accomplices jumped a semi-secured part of the mall after hours, and attempted unsuccessfully to make off with cash and merchandise. Police said the three men looked similar to a group of men who successfully committee a similar crime in a Greenville mall earlier this month.

Employees at a Citadel Mall store followed a female shopper who was “acting suspicion,” who may have made off with over $700 in ladies’ unmentionables. A description of the alleged thief was distributed throughout the mall.

Employees at a Sam Rittenberg Boulevard eyeglasses store reported a man coming in several times, asking to see a doctor, giving different names each time, and then making off with a $100 pair of sunglasses. After reviewing security camera footage, the manager was able to spot the man making off with an additional three, $200-a-pair sunglasses on a separate trip into the store. The total allegedly stolen by the man was over $700.

A family house-sitting their neighbors’ West Ashley home discovered that over $300,000 in cash and rare coins had been stolen from the residence. A member of the family returned from work to find a cinder block and broken glass, and a pried open window on the backside of the residence. The neighbors asked that the house sitters first check to see if their home safe was still there first, before calling police. They did, and it was gone. Apparently, the safe had contained $100,000 in cash, and the rest in silver and gold coins. Left behind was an AR-15 rifle on the bed, as well as several shotguns in the closet.

A manager at a Mary Ader Avenue business alleged that a former employee, who’d been fired for using profanity around clients, had been posting pictures of the business online with the word “racist” printed across it. The manager was able to ascertain that it may have been the recently fired employee who was doing so, along with posting negative reviews of the business, as the picture was also the ex-employee’s online profile picture.

A Somerset Circle resident returned home to find one of her rear windows of her house knocked out with a cinder block. Entering the house, she found several areas had been rifled through, including her dresser. Missing from the dresser was a jewelry box that had contained roughly $700 in baubles left by her mother. The woman said she and her siblings were going to split up the jewels.

A woman reported a man repeatedly trying to force her car into traffic with his vehicle despite her screaming to stop as she attempted to leave a Sam Rittenberg Boulevard convenience store. The man yelled to “get the hell out of the way,” and she yelled back that she wouldn’t venture out until the roadway was clear. Police were able to capture a picture of the man, his car, and the license plate via the store’s security cameras, but have been unable to locate the man.

A Treble Road resident reported seeing a man going through her car in the wee hours of the morning. Police responded and soon found a man matching her description, hiding behind a tree around the corner on Winchester Road. The man had a pair of pliers on him, which police suspected could be used to break into cars.
