The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.

Robbery With An Object
An employee at a Savannah Highway convenience store reported to police that a man in his 60s grabbed three cartons of Newports and other items and ran out into a car that had a pre-teen girl in the front seat. The clerk said the man had asked how much a carton of Newport cigarettes cost. He asked the clerk to grab him three cartons, and put a bag of cookies and a beer on the counter, and told her to ring it up, then said another person was coming to pay for it, and began pacing the aisles. Suddenly, the older man grabbed the items, ran out of the store, jumped into a car, and when the clerk approached, began yelling, “I have a weapon! I have a weapon,” before driving off.

Intimidation
A Wantoot Drive man told his daughter, her son, and her boyfriend they had to move out of his home because they were not paying rent. The man said the next day, the boyfriend returned, walked up his wheelchair ramp, and threatened him. “You are a marked man. Next time I see you, I’m gonna kill you.” The boyfriend later told police that he hadn’t threatened the man, just called out he was coming in to grab his tools.

Shoplifting
A woman stole $500 of panties and $400 in thongs from a Sam Rittenberg Boulevard women’s lingerie store. After asking for a job application, the woman then began looking at brassieres, and asked the clerk for a size not on display. When the clerk went into the back of the store, the woman allegedly ducked around a corner where cameras couldn’t see, and made off with close to 70 items.

April 26 Shoplifting
A clerk at an Olde Town Road convenience store told police an inebriated man followed her into the store, stole a 24-can case of beer, and used a bicycle with a basket on the front handlebars for his getaway. The clerk said the man had been panhandling customers outside the front door, so she told him to leave, but unbeknownst to her, the man followed her inside, went to the cooler and grabbed the beer.
