The following were taken from actual incident reports filed last week by the City of Charleston Police Department. These are not convictions and the names of businesses, complainants, and suspects have been left out to protect the innocent. All suspects are  innocent until proven guilty … of course.

Larceny by false pretenses
Police met with a Carson Drive woman who said she applied for a $3,200 loan through a woman she believed worked for a national bank. The woman was told to give her bank account information to the “loan officer,” who sent $3,200 in four separate checks to be deposited, and then instructed the woman to deposit the checks and send her bank the same amount of money. But the original checks turned out to be fake. When the woman contacted the loan officer, she was told the mistake could be fixed by her giving out more personal account information.

Criminal domestic violence, simple assault
A Carriage Lane woman told police that her husband entered their apartment and demanded “beer money.” When she refused, her husband allegedly grabbed her arm and pushed her out of his way, and then took a credit card from her wallet. She had recently taken him off the credit card. The man reportedly said, “You’re going to pay for this. Sometimes I feel like killing you.” The woman called her adult daughter to come pick her up, who said this was an ongoing issue in the marriage.

Robbery by hand
An Orange Grove Road man told police that he was putting a comforter into the back of his car when he was attacked by two men. He said the men hit him in the back of the head, and pushed him into the back seat of the car, and then stole his wallet and cellphone. The wallet contained $450 cash and various identification and bankcards.

Simple assault
Reviewing security footage at a Magwood Drive fast-food restaurant, police saw what appeared to be a manager slapping the face of an employee. The employee told police that she had been approached by the manager and told to tuck in her shirt. The employee claimed she told the manager that another manager allowed to wear it un-tucked, due to it being too small. This, according to the employee, prompted the manager to tell her: “Watch your attitude little girl and get back to work.” Later the manager called the employee over at shift change to meet with the oncoming manager. Apparently, when the manager grabbed the employee’s arm, the employee snatched her arm back and said not to touch her, which led to the manager slapping her in the face.

Intimidation
A student allegedly verbally assaulted a school parent advocate at a West Ashley middle school. After a fight cleared the cafeteria, the adult was outside with one of the combatants when several students approached and attempted to reengage with the student. When the adult intervened, one middle school student told the adult to “get the [expletive] out of my face dog, you don’t know who the [expletive] you are messing with dog. You just keep talking to me and I will [expletive] you up, you will see.” Officers arrested the middle school student and took him to a Department of Juvenile Justice facility.

Pornography, obscene materials
A student at a West Ashley elementary school apparently took a picture of his privates and texted the picture to at least two schoolmates while on the morning bus. A fight broke out on the bus, and the principal had called the students to her office. Because of the age of those involved, police said they didn’t need to get involved.
