February 15 | Aggravated assault
Police responded to a report of an assault at a Tobias Gadson Boulevard healthcare office. When an officer arrived, he spotted a man and a woman in a car, where it was “clear a struggle was ensuing.” The officer reported the man was stopping the woman from fleeing from the car by grasping her hoodie sweatshirt. The officer jumped out of his cruiser and grabbed the woman’s arm, helping to free her from the man’s clutch. Later, when other officers arrived on the scene, the woman said the two of them had been arguing, and that the man had pushed her to the ground.
February 15 | Criminal domestic violence, simple assault
Police arrested a couple at an Ashley River Crossing Drive apartment complex for being “mutual combatants” in a physical domestic dispute. The woman had called police, saying her boyfriend had just strangled her. Arriving on the scene, police stopped the boyfriend, who had a series of scratches and bruises, and a backpack filled with his clothes and belongings. Later the woman alleged the boyfriend had kneed her in the stomach despite her calling out “Stop, I’m, pregnant.” Police found no signs of injury on the woman.
February 16 | Intimidation
A Tall Sail Drive resident complained to police that a “mentally handicapped” neighbor was yelling obscenities and throwing sea shells against the outside wall of a condo. Police returned several times to calm the situation, as the unruly neighbor had threatened to kill the person who’d called the police on them.
February 16 | Shoplifting
A clerk at a Sam Rittenberg Boulevard gas station convenience store reported a woman with a mohawk stealing three 24-can cases of beer from the store while a friend of hers talked to the clerk.
February 18 | General information
An Orange Bush Road resident told police that a “Captain Cole” at the “Correctional Institute” had called her, saying she needed to send him $3,000 in gift card codes because her grandson was incarcerated in his facility. After doing so, the woman said the man called her back, saying he needed another $3,000, as her grandson’s lawyer didn’t show up for court. She called police instead, and when they called the number, the man on the other end of the phone soon hung up.
February 18 | Statutory rape
A 15-year-old West Ashley girl told police that she had consensual sex with a 20-year-old co-worker. The girl also said she initiated the intercourse. The investigation continues.
February 18 | General information
A Lochmor Terrace resident told police a roofing crew arrived at his house and began to work. Thinking they were the crew that was supposed to install panels on the roof, the resident was surprised when the crew began ripping off the roof instead. The resident struggled to communicate with the men, as none spoke English. When their boss arrived, he explained they’d gone to the wrong house, and fixed what his crew had removed. The resident wanted a report of the incident in case he has roof problems in the future from the incident.
February 18 | Missing person
Police responded to a text for help from a cellphone at a Savannah Highway motor lodge, but could not find the sender. Investigating the incident, police discovered the young woman who had sent it was very young and pregnant. Following another “ping” from the phone, they tracked the woman to another address, where she said she’d been worried for her safety during an argument with her boyfriend, but that there had been no violence. Because of her age, state Social Services officers were called in to take the girl away.
